1. Dennis Bruce - CMRP - Chairman

President, Mindset Creative Planning Inc.

After a long career as a Creative Director for five multinational ad agencies on four continents, Dennis co-founded Miller Myers Bruce DallaCosta, a Canadian ad agency with a reputation for creativity. In 1993, he sold his shares in the agency and founded Mindset Creative Planning.

For the past 18 years, he has devoted his energies to Creative Planning (a discipline he based on the British Account Planning model) and consumer insight research.

Dennis has one advantage over other researchers; his background as a creative director. His skills embrace the rational, analytical disciplines of a researcher (he has the profession’s highest designation CMRP – Certified Market Research Professional) and the intuitive, creative disciplines of a writer and art-director.

Having applied his skills to many clients' businesses, Dennis has moderated thousands of focus groups and gained insights that have led to many new product launches and dramatic business gains for such clients as Bell ExpressVu, Equant, CBC Television and Radio, Covad, London Life (Freedom 55), Mercedes-Benz, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, Royal Bank of Canada, Radio-Shack/The Source, Telecom Canada, Toyota Canada, Volkswagen and many others.

Rounding out his Planning expertise, Dennis has been trained as a focus group moderator at the Burke Institute in Cincinnati and has also undergone Synectics training at the Synectics Institute in Cambridge Massachusetts.

Dennis has lectured on Creative Planning at colleges and universities including Queen's, York and Wilfrid Laurier as well as industry groups such as the Association of Canadian Advertisers, Institute of Canadian Advertising, Canadian Marketing Association and the Professional Market Research Society. He has also writes frequent articles on the subject for Marketing Magazine.

Over the years, Dennis' work has helped develop brands in almost every conceivable category and earned him over 300 national and international awards. He is a member of MRIA (Market Research Intelligence Association).

On the personal side:

Dennis is the father of 4 children and ten grandchildren.  He and his wife, Muriel, have been members of Blythwood Road Baptist Church for the past 34 years.

During that time, he has served as chairman of the Deacon’s board, taught adult Sunday School, led home Bible study groups and, in 1995, started the Out of the Cold program (of which he is chairman) which serves around 140 poor and homeless people during the winter months from the beginning of November to the end of March.

In addition, he has, over the years, worked pro-bono for Yonge Street Mission, World Vision and Canadian Baptist Ministries.  While living in New Zealand in the 1970s, Dennis wrote and directed a World Vision/New Zealand Broadcasting program in Kenya on aid and development in the third world.  He has also travelled to Bolivia on a short term mission assignment.

Dennis believes that, as a Christian, he has an obligation to serve the poor and needy and stand up for those who are regarded as “the least of Christ’s brethren.”
